Tour Auto 2010 to celebrate Ferrari anniversary

The 2010 event will mark 50 years since Willy Mairesse and Georges Berger won the GT class of the Tour de France Automobile in a Ferrari 250 GT short wheelbase, the first of three victories for the model in the grueling 2500km event.

The classic revival of the original road rally will start on April 19 from the regular Jardine des Tulleries location and punctuate the road touring sections with circuit heats at Magny Cours, Charade, Bresse and Paul Ricard, plus times sections on closed roads, before finishing up in Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the Corniche on April 24.

The original race ran from 1899 to 1986 before making a comeback in 1992 as a historic event open to cars built between 1951 and 1973, plus later models deemed interesting enough, though only cars built up to 1966 are eligible for overall victory.
