The saleroom in the spacious halls of SAS Prince Rainier’s Motor Museum was packed with collectors from around the world who came to bid on the hand-picked selection of historic sports and competition cars offered

The star of the sale, a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Super Sport that raced at Le Mans in 1934, sold for £1.7 million to a private European collector.

Other highlights included one of only 20
1969 Ferrari 365 GTSs built, which went to the US for £640,000 – a world record auction price for this model.

A fully race prepared 1938 BMW 328, complete with all original parts, sold for £352,000 and the 1959 New York Motor Show 1958 Aston Martin DB4 Series I Saloon, sold for £234,000.

A 1982 Maserati Khamsin surprised the pundits by doubling its pre-sale estimate, achieving £82,400.
